OUR STORY

Abilene, Texas - 2016
A Moxie Movement was founded in Abilene, Texas in 2016 on a college campus. At the time, Christina M. Martinez (2nd year) & Jamie N. Morgan (3rd year) wanted to create a community that would address campus culture on consent and Title IX. Moxie was created. A Moxie Movement has always been, at its core, an intersectional feminist organization. With the guidance of a sociology, a business and a political science professor (yes, all women), AMM, held & attended rallies, led weekly meetings on self - awareness and political crash courses, hosted dialogue sessions and served around the local community. Because AMM relies heavily on grassroots support the organization ended May 2018 with graduation of members and low membership.

San Antonio, Tx - 2020
2020, our view of community and how we can safely do it was challenged. It was a year of contemplation of issues (i.e. public health, systemic racism, financial security, political division and health coverage). A Moxie Movement was re-charted as an organized network in San Antonio, Tx by Christina M. Martinez. With a new leadership team and great need to build community in a pandemic, we began to participate in the community. Are activities so far included:
- Rallies & Protests (ex. Black Lives Matter, Women's March, MLK March, Cesaer Chavez March)
- Community Events & Collaborations (ex. Elrethia's House of Purpose, Gospel Vision, Dual Generation Initiative)
- Small & Independent Creator Support (ex. Electric Aid, Bean Bag Poetry, Sunrise Sunset)
We continue to look for opportunities to empower community members and leaders (local artists, businesses, organizations, experts). We educate ourselves and provide educational opportunities by the community for the community. Lastly, engage with difference (intentionally) in order to truly create a local community.

We thank you for reading our story and look forward to seeing you in the community.
